Genuine IE80 sound better than than copies by far actually.
The best way to detect fakes along with the advise in the video is this. The counterfeit versions have UPC Written twice by the barcode as opposed to once on the originals.
Real Sennheiser products always have a "Genuine" sticker on the side of the box plus they will have a S/N. The Chinese ones won't have either on the box. That is your biggest clues to tell the difference between fake and real.
