What is the Difference Between Procession and Generation in the Trinity?

Uh kyle asks how would you respond to those that say generation and procession are distinct but we don't know how i would say i would say they're right uh uh properly speaking because we are we're certainly not god and we don't understand what it means to uh .

Have an infinite communication via generation and an infinite communication via procession we have no idea what that looks like um but on the other hand we can reason from or speculate from the things we know in revelation that one is a natural generation one's affiliation and .

The other one is a procession and so we can speculate on what what is that what could this mean and then we we do have help from i think the uh psychological or metaphysical analogy of augustine uh as well as uh aristotle's two modes i mentioned this earlier two modes of perfect generation uh so we have memory intellect and will .

How those things work and operate together what their distinction is what their order is this will help us understand uh or could give us a window into an understanding of how the um how we might understand the distinction of generation and procession as well as the two modes of perfect production according to nature and according to .

Will that aristotle speaks of and so i think yes uh when saint john of damascus is saying that we don't know how they're distinct and i think he's repeating saint gregory the theologian he's absolutely right we have no idea what it of what infinite act looks like or what infinite an infinite act of communication looks like .

But through analogy we might be able to get a hint of uh better ways in which they're distinct according to nature according to uh will or according to um you know knowledge love that sort of thing
